The Scotland & Medicine partnership was established in December 2004 with the aim of promoting the medical collections and health connections of Scottish Museums to local, national and international audiences. The lead partner in the project is Surgeons’ Hall Museum in Edinburgh.
The Scotland & Medicine partnership produced four regional leaflets to raise awareness of medical related collections and connections held in museums and archives across the country. A partnership website was launched in 2005 and is undergoing an extensive redevelopment in 2008.
Anatomy Acts, an exhibition of Scottish medical collections, toured Edinburgh, St Andrews, Dundee, Inverness, Thurso and Glasgow in 2006-7. The exhibition was accompanied by several publications and a website. The exhibition was nominated for a Gulbenkian Award, an Arts & Business (Scotland) Award and a Museums & Galleries Excellence Award.
The accompanying Anatomy Acts publication won Medical Book of the Year in 2007.
The Scotland & Medicine partnership is currently working on several projects, including collaboration with the National Library of Scotland on an online exhibition to commemorate the 500th anniversary of printing in Scotland.
